Reading | Mapping Skills | Geography

LI: To build geographical knowledge and mapping skills.

This week, we were building our geographical knowledge and challenging our mapping skills. We needed to observe a photo that was located somewhere in the world. In groups of three, we were to find out where a giant carrot was. This activity is to find out where in the world Mr. Ogilvie is.

The giant carrot is a statue which is located in Ohakune, New Zealand. We had to answer questions and add in photos. We recorded our found knowledge on this slide. I enjoyed this activity, a new fact learnt was that the giant carrot located in Ohakune that is over 6 meters tall!

Reading, Treaty of Waitangi

This week we have been learning about the Treaty of Waitangi by accessing different text types and
media.

In groups we needed to firstly access the information and gather the main ideas of Who, What, Where,
Why and When. We had journal stories, websites, youtube videos and more.

We then had to summarise the information into sentences using key words. Even though we all picked
out different words, the main idea of the treaty are the 3 Ps.

The 3 Ps are Protection, Partnership and Participation. This is what the treaty set out to achieve.

We then had to evaluate our new learnings and think of questions that we that we want to find more
information on.

Recording Sheet Cats

 Recording sheet
 Cats

L.I. - Making connections to text sets
Solution 1 -  We should make our cat the last cat we have.
Solution 2- Keep your cats indoors, so they can eat native birds.
We think the best solution is to try to keep our cats indoors because they might chase
birds rats and mice.
READ the first TEXT

1.Text to text - What else have you read or watched that has been about cats?
You should let your cat stay inside so they don’t kill animals.
2.Text to self - Have you ever had a pet cat? NO.
  •  The Cat in the Hat , Goldfield, The Lion King.
3.Text to world - What do you know about what cats do in the wild?
They pick up they cats and find food.
Watch the  VIDEO, make the best cat your one.
Solution 1 -  We should look after our cats so it doesn’t die.
Solution 2- We should make our cat the last cat we have.
I think the best solution is how the cat was trying to get in the bucket because he
tried to get the bird but the cat fell down then the cat went back in the bucket then
the cat eats the bird and they keep they pet in door.
READ the NEWSPAPER ARTICLE

1.Max really hoped to see a whale.
2.Lester put the hydrophone in the water to listen for whale sounds.
3.Lester took them offshore because the water is deep and full of food.
4.Lester said that he could hear squeal and clicking but he couldn’t hear
any sound.

Lisa does not want to be found because she wants to finish the book by not getting interrupted.

Mark is a character in the book that Lisa is reading in the bathroom

Lisa left the reading room because Lisa finished the book that she is reading

Duffy - Into the Games

Today we went to the hall to watch a show about Duffy goes in to the games. When we went into the hall there were three people they introduce themselves. Then they started the show. The show was all about a boy name Duffy and his cousin. His cousin always play video games so Duffy got bored and started playing by himself. Then Duffy put on his nana's glasses and then he started dancing. Then he got suck in to the video game. I learn that the game that Duffy's cousin was playing was invented by Duffy's nana. My favourite part was when the minstral try to knock out Duffy's tour. Minstral is a character in the game that try to knock out the blocks.
